The twelfth being “Structure and strategise for being unique and also the best”. Having a weighting of 80% “Differentiation” (Blue Ocean) and 20% “Cost Leadership” (Red Ocean) as your strategic development plan will put you ahead of 90% of your competitors.

This culture focus will enhance the experience for all your clients and customers but more importantly your employee’s experience. Differentiation will develop from capability to capacity to core competency to Strategic Advantage.

Cost Leadership is still a fundamental skill and you will notice your Accountant have excellent advice and tactical plans for this. However, if “Cost Leadership” (Red Ocean) is a core competency this will make the culture of your organisation less “joyful” and inspirational in comparison to “Differentiation Leadership” (Blue Ocean).

This is due to the very nature of the elements utilised, i.e. creativity and new projects can be very exciting, e.g. new product to market development. In comparison to focusing on faster stock turns, new financial structures with lower cost of debt and so on!
